In essence, I think you are completely correct that explicitly created events are the ideal mechanism of creating contracts. CDC contracts are incomplete, but lightweight starting points for engineering and data teams who can't commit to the often heavy burden associated with understanding the details of their (sometimes very legacy) service. I realize now the 'extraction vs. creation' argument in the MDS is indeed real, and is holding back so many people from leveraging data to its fullest. Excellent post!
